Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure for your skin. A health Canada approved microneedling device uses thin needles to make tiny holes in the top layer of your skin. The damage helps stimulate your skin’s healing process, so it produces more collagen and elastin. These proteins keep your skin firm and smooth.
When you arrive to your microneedling appointment you will be brought into a private treatment room. Your skin will be cleansed and a numbing agent will be applied to your skin for 15-30 minutes. The numbing agent will be removed and your skin will be cleansed with an antiseptic solution. The Registered nurse will decide what needle depth to treat at depending on your skin concern and treatment area. A Health canada approved microneedling device with a non reusable tip will be used and a topical hyaluronic acid will be applied during the procedure. After the procedure you will relax under an LED light to help reduce redness and improve the healing process.
You might consider microneedling if you’re concerned about:
Microneedling is not painful, but can be uncomfortable. The Registered Nurse will apply a topical numbing agent to minimize the discomfort.
There are a few temporary side effects to be aware of with microneedling. The procedure causes short-term swelling, redness, and skin flaking, which can last for a few days .
You should not get microneedling if:
Before your appointment the Registered Nurse will complete a medical history and assess your skin to make sure you are a candidate for microneedling.
The longevity of microneedling results depends on several factors, including your age, your stress, and your skin maintenance. Younger people build new collagen more easily and can also hold onto collagen for longer periods than people with mature skin. A stressful lifestyle can break collagen down more quickly, along with tobacco use and unprotected exposure to sunlight.
Microneedling doesn't require active downtime, meaning you won't have to take time off from work to recover from the treatment. Healing from microneedling can take anhywhere from 24-72 hrs depending on the individual and extent of the treatment. You can expect to be pink or red and it may feel like a sunburn for the first couple of days. You can wear makeup after 48 hrs or when scabs have formed over the wounds and the skin feels rough to touch.
It takes 4-6 weeks to see the best results as the skin requires time to heal and collagen to form. You will notice an immediate feeling of tightness and plumpness to your skin the first couple of weeks.
We typically recommend 3 microneedling treatments to see the best results but more may be needed depending on what is being treated.
